[EN] What happens when we invite someone to share stories of the past across national borders? When familial structures transform into alliances? Dêrsim – a name that has vanished from Turkey’s map but continues to live on in the memory of many. Once a refuge for Kurds and Alevis, the region was renamed Tunceli as part of the state’s homogenization efforts in 1935. The massacres of 1937/38, mark the peak of state violence whose effects are still felt today: forced resettlements, policies of assimilation, and the refusal to process historical injustices shape the memory of the Kurdish-Alevi community – including the German diaspora. On the stepfathers land, stepfather and stepdaughter search and encounter different stories and insights. As they return to the places of childhood – to a home destroyed by hegemonic violence – long-buried memories resurface and intertwine with the collective histories rooted both locally and in the diaspora in Germany. Questions arise around belonging and identity – and about what solidarity might look like in the present.
