SYNOPSIS

[EN] STILL WATERS SHIMMER TOO is a portrait of a historical public crisis that was primarily experienced in the realm of the private. Shot entirely from hotel quarantine in Hong Kong, scenes of city life provide a base to examine the relationship between camera and subject, political defeat and steadfastness, dreaming and dissidence. By placing his own narration and ontological musings into dialogue with reflections on the aftermath of Hong Kong’s liberatory movements, Gospodinov traces social transformation onto a seemingly austere reality.
