SYNOPSIS

[EN] Two teenage boys, Jack and Ralph, sit quietly in an empty cul-de-sac. Gum is shared. A car approaches. It's a moment that feels like a beginning—but it isn’t. In Ritual, time fractures as Jack moves between the suffocating monotony of home—running endlessly on a treadmill—and a brutal confrontation in a remote barn, where he's handed a hammer, a handful of rusty nails, and a choice. As Ralph is pinned down by strangers, Jack hesitates, then acts. The violence is intimate, slow, and deeply wrong. Cut between scenes of Jack's increasing distress on the treadmill, the film leads the audience to believe he is working through guilt. But in a quietly devastating twist, when Ralph—seemingly unharmed—hands Jack a fresh red t-shirt and a glass of water, and Jack puts it on, we realize: the treadmill, the vomiting, the internal torment all came before the act. As Jack and Ralph return to the cul-de-sac and sit in silence once more, the audience sees the loop for what it is—not a memory of regret, but a ritual of becoming. A haunting exploration of complicity, repression, and the silent moments that betray us, Ritual uses its fractured timeline to unearth a devastating truth: sometimes the horror hasn't happened yet.
