[EN] BITE is a psychological and surreal drama set against the backdrop of the East London Canal. It follows a young couple, Mitchell and Lisa, as they struggle with the unraveling of their relationship. The film marks the directorial debut of Gabriele Vaicekauskaite and the writing debut of Betzy Aquino. BITE delves into the rawness of human relationships, offering a poignant examination of the challenges of 'staying' with someone in today's society. With the rise of hyper-individualism and the gamification of relationships through dating apps, maintaining a relationship has never been more difficult. BITE portrays the timeless struggle of two people falling apart, compounded by the constant 'mosquito noise' of modernity—social media and personal branding—perpetually in the background. This film captures the essence of contemporary relationship dynamics and the unseen pressures that contribute to their dissolution. BITE resonates with audiences by authentically portraying interracial relationships and the complexities of long-term partnerships. Featuring a strong POC female character, it provides much-needed representation and empowerment. This film highlights often-overlooked narratives, fostering meaningful conversations and promoting social change through diverse storytelling. Our team, predominantly women filmmakers from diverse backgrounds, includes a significant number who identify within the queer community and are immigrants. BITE demonstrates that filmmaking is a viable career for Global Majority women. By targeting festivals that empower female filmmakers and aiming for prestigious platforms, we strive to highlight underrepresented narratives and embrace diversity. Now, more than ever, the world needs these stories.
