SYNOPSIS

[EN] Logline: A housebound mother's hunger for agency and control among the mutating textures and temporalities of her home sets off an uncanny transformation. Synopsis: Domestic Demon is a hybrid/experimental documentary film based on my real experience of motherhood and the prospect of my own erasure in the shadow of postpartum depression both during and in the aftermath of pandemic lockdown. Shadow, silhouette and quotidian textures morph to capture the surreal, disorienting and grotesque ways in which time spent dutifully in the mundanity of home changes those of us who have no choice but to exist inside of it—and to ask, “how can I still be free?” The film is narrated in Western Armenian, my mother tongue and an endangered language.
