SYNOPSIS

Luis refuses to attend his grandmother’s funeral, a distant figure who vanished from his life without explanation. While the adults avoid his unsettling questions and head to the ritual as if by inertia, he withdraws into the only space where he can still find his bearings: a video game that mirrors the real world like a fragmented echo. In this virtual universe, he embarks on an intimate journey in search of meaning in the face of death, broken bonds, and the struggle to communicate even with those he loves most. Checkpoint is a reflection on growth, loss, and everything left unsaid. The short film explores the thin boundary between childhood and adolescence, between individual mourning and collective inertia, in a story about the losses that mark the passage into adulthood. As in a video game, the checkpoint is a crossing point, where everything could, perhaps, be rewritten.
