SYNOPSIS

Spring in Tartu during the 1970s. Students are preparing for their final exams, filled with both hope and uncertainty about the future. Physics student Vipper has promised himself to graduate cum laude, but one obstacle stands in his way—Professor Subotin, who believes that mastering the Russian language at a high level is essential in the Soviet Union, a requirement that Vipper does not meet. Their ideological clash is further intensified by Vipper’s drastic vow: if he fails to graduate cum laude, he will take his own life.
