Eremos Trilogy is the first-ever Deaf short film anthology, and entirely self-funded. Eremos derived from the Greek word for “solitude” is the central theme that connects all three films. The trilogy follows three different deaf protagonists as they navigate various forms of isolation in modern society. Each story explores challenges unique to the deaf community, blending gritty, thought-provoking narratives with a touch of dark humour. We’re Sam Arnold and Samuel Ash, deaf guerrilla filmmakers who took on the ambitious challenge of creating Eremos Trilogy, the first ever deaf anthology short film, as a self-funded micro-budget production. Driven by a shared passion for storytelling and a commitment to developing our craft, we write and produce Eremos Trilogy. Our goal was to create bold, impactful short films that reflect our unique perspectives and push creative boundaries showing how deaf films should be made, not defined by hearing loss. Inspired by Robert Rodriguez’s Rebel Without a Crew, we embraced guerrilla filmmaking, doing everything ourselves to bring the magic of the Eremos Trilogy to life. Each film was shot in a different location across the UK including the Scottish Highlands, London, and Sheffield with a skeletal deaf crew. The trilogy aims to empower deaf creatives, showcase authentic voices, and inspire future deaf-led cinema by encouraging other deaf filmmakers to pick up a camera and create stories in the same guerrilla style we embraced. Our film poster designer, Ravi Vasavan's description behind the design: The keyart captures the shared undercurrent of the Eremos Trilogy through a single ripple, showing how each story connects across time and space. The drowning head at the centre reflects the emotional weight each protagonist carries. Isolated, overwhelmed, but not alone.
