Zhayna travels from Xinjiang to Almaty in search of her missing husband, Yersin. When the Kazakhstan-China border closed during the Covid and the political climate heated up, Yersin vanished without a trace. In Almaty, Zhayna reconnects with her sister and old friends, revisiting memories of the past as they discuss life, love and the situation in Xinjiang. Over breakfast with her sister, she reveals she has heard rumors that Yersin is working at a local café. But when she fails to find him there, she continues her search and encounters Yersin’s friend Zhaydar. After this meeting, her hope of finding her husband fades. Zhayna later visits her childhood friend Saule, with whom she once studied at music school. As they share secrets and reminisce, the journey begins to feel less like a search for Yersin and more like an exploration of Zhayna’s own place in the world.
