SYNOPSIS

Golden Mirror : the reality show that turns cruelty into prime-time entertainment. In tonight’s finale, Couenne, a scandal-ridden drag performer, and Colette, a depressed vegan influencer, battle it out after five weeks of humiliation and manipulation. The crowd craves blood, and producer Sisi is ready to deliver. They’ll do anything to avoid the fate reserved for the loser: social death upon returning to the real world. Two contestants, one prize. But in a world where suffering is content, who really wins? Director statement : In February 2024, we participated in a reality TV show, hoping to reach the masses with our queer and trans identities and challenge existing representations. Caught in a machine of pinkwashing, we experienced firsthand how media co-opt queerness for spectacle and profit. With Golden Mirror, we chose to appropriate and subvert the codes of reality television, using tools like VFX to transform its mechanisms of manipulation, voyeurism, and exploitation into a queer critique. The film examines the tension between visibility and control, intimacy and performance, pleasure and surveillance, turning the medium itself into a space of resistance.
