Synopsis: On a cold Swedish evening, a nice husband struggles to connect with his wife, but when they go out for a drink, she seems more interested in a stranger. Disheartened, he leaves them alone. But when she returns home with the stranger, having promised him a ride home, the husband must defend his relationship in a Swedish way. Director's biography: The director was born in Iran and immigrated to Sweden to study engineering. After working at Volvo as an engineer, she discovered a passion for film. She subsequently studied with Abbas Kiarostami and Asghar Farhadi before moving to the US to attend UCLA. Her new short film presents her unique perspective on modern relationships in Sweden, symptomatic of a society of stagnant men who hide behind a feminist facade and where recently unshackled women misuse their new powers. Director's statement: My film expresses the lack of communication; an intimate, naturalistic portrait of a relationship in contemporary Sweden. The characters are reserved rather than fiery, stuck in a mundane marriage in a sexually open society. The main character is symptomatic of a society of men hiding behind a feminist facade, he values order over passion, which at the same time confuses his wife to realise her complex desires as a woman and find harmony with each other as a couple. Production description: Led by a diverse team, the film was developed through close collaboration between director and a dedicated cast over several years. This process, inspired by Abbas Kiarostami’s approach, created a unique authenticity. The result is a film rooted in truth and emotional intimacy. Two cuts of the film were edited in Wim Vanacker's (Cannes programmer) editing workshop. The feature version of this script has also been shortlisted twice for the Sundance Screenwriters Lab 2022 and 2024.
