Short: In an eccentric black market, a community of resourceful marketeers find creative ways to survive the harsh poverty of Brazil. Long: In the heart of Brazil, legend tells of a black market with a reputation for selling stolen goods and being saturated in its own ‘filth’. It is run by a marginalised community living in poverty that has been forced to find creative ways to survive. And so they have – for over 30 years, by selling everything and anything, from discarded clothes to used false teeth. This documentary transcends the eccentricity of the market and its community by focusing on the daily lives of two longstanding marketeers, Baby, a motorcycle helmet repairer, and Wagner, renowned for selling what he thinks no man should live without. How do they maintain their strength, humour, and hope in the face of relentless adversity?
