The film follows the age-less, yearly, slow migration of the shepherds and their ovine flocks from the dry plains of Provence to the greenery spring pastures of the higher altitudes of the Alps. Such is the practice of transhumance. Which has recently been inscribed as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO. This nomadic lifestyle calls harks back to the dawn of civilization, when the hunter-gatherers used to roam from pastures to pastures, following the seasons, much before manhood settled down ; that before fences, borders and roads transformed the landscape and modified practices. Although, a few of them have traveled through time and can be found amongst us. However nowadays, there are only just a few shepherds walking their transhumance by foot, majority of them doing the migration by trucks.... It is the tireless rhythm of the steps of a thousand sheep and their ringing bells, 7 shepherds, 24 dogs and a dozen team members that this movie proposes to follow, like an ode, a "Rhapsodie des Origines".
