Saturnino’s wife, Elodia, leaves him, tired of living with a drunk. He drinks for 40 days and 40 nights straight, when God takes away his sight and gives him the gift of turning water into sotol. Blind, Saturnino walks to a canteen, where he gains four acolytes and one enemy: the town priest, Simón. The apostles gather people, while Simón tries to make them come to their senses. Saturnino has a vision in which his wife confronts him, before dying in front of Simón, who discovers that he, and everyone who drank Saturnino’s sotol, now possesses the same gift.
