The Hunter follows an elderly rural worker in Paraná, Brazil, whose hunger is intensified by delayed wages. He encounters a mysterious black dog, which hunts chickens in the surrounding fields. Driven by necessity, he consumes the dog’s leftovers and eventually begins stealing from his employer himself. The film meditates on the weight of resignation, while also attending to the call of history’s defeated, those whose past struggles gesture toward the possibility of a future. This tension is conveyed through a restrained, contemplative approach inspired by Paul Schrader’s "transcendental style." Conceived as an exercise in spiritual cinema, it further engages with questions of the miraculous, a theme central to the director’s academic research at the State University of Paraná.
