By photographing a mirror with clay attached to it from a blind spot, I created a single form using both the reflected world and the clay. In Japanese health education textbooks, women are described as becoming “rounded”. This expression evokes a stone flowing down a river. We know the undeniable fact that human bones cannot be sculpted like stones. We grow up within the frameworks shaped by society, convincing ourselves that we cannot survive without them—whether imposed by others or created by ourselves. Words and actions trapped in these frameworks hurt the heart, turning mirrors into walls.
