Inspired by Jemal Karchkhadze's allegorical short story Igi, which explores the theme of being different in a society of like-minded individuals, this film delves deep into the experience of marginalized identities. Another key influence is an albino girl from Rustavi, whom I cast in my debut short film I Am Lula. The narrative of Igi intertwines with real events from Georgia's recent history, particularly the violent protests of May 17, 2023, and July 5, 2021, where thousands opposed a small gathering of LGBTQI+ individuals. Blending documentary facts with artistic imagination, Igi examines the stark divide between majority and minority, challenging societal perceptions while highlighting our shared humanity. Through this fusion of storytelling and reality, the film invites reflection on the dynamics of exclusion, belonging, and the cost of being "unlike others."
