Creating something sincere and genuine has always been my artistic goal. That's why I ventured into making a short film that blends pseudo-documentary style with a gritty, realistic narrative. It was a daring leap for me into the realm of pseudo-documentary storytelling. In terms of content, the film unfolds through the eyes of three young journalists who get tangled up in what initially appears to be a bizarre quest to track down an online abuse video. A seasoned journalist, eager to make a name for himself and uncover the truth, leads two rookies through a series of twists and turns in the village. Through sheer happenstance, they stumble upon another truth: the longstanding issue of unlicensed traditional medicine practice in the community. The stark contrast between the existential confusion of urban youth and the steadfast dedication of rural elderly doctors culminates in a powerful final scene, leading to reconciliation and acceptance between the two groups. As for the style, I aimed for a subjective camera perspective, accounting for about thirty percent of the film. I utilized fixed interview positions, shoulder-mounted shots for a documentary feel, and more. My goal was to create an immersive, authentic story that allows the audience to feel a range of emotions firsthand. Additionally, in the final scene, I enlisted a large number of villagers as extras to authentically recreate the moment of villagers petitioning for the doctor, reflecting my sincere intention to share lesser-known real events with the audience.
