SYNOPSIS

In the scorching summer of 2008, a theft occurred in a rural village in Shanxi. Three sheep were stolen from the pen of the farmer Sun Yuanshuai. His wife, Zhang Meili, who runs a beauty and massage parlor in the city, returned home to deal with the incident. However, she was called back to the city by a distressing phone call from her employee, Shuishui, who was being harassed at the shop. Upon her return, Zhang Meili encountered the two sheep thieves. The mistreatment triggered memories of her own unfair past, including being sexually assaulted, losing her child, and dealing with the chaos in her family. While bringing Shuishui back home, Zhang Meili faced more turmoil, discovering the thieves attempting another theft and her husband’s infidelity. In the end, amidst a raging fire, Xiaomei finds solace and relief from her past sufferings.
