Gary Sternberg is 88, when he reaches out to the inhabitants of the house he grew up in. He was born in 1931 as the son of a Jew in Nazi Germany. His family fled to Shanghai in 1940, where they survived under Japanese occupation. He immigrated to the U.S. and worked as a blackjack dealer in Las Vegas. After years of bitterness, he finds a new connection to Germany.
