In a makeshift school for refugees in Athens, Greece, a group of Afghan kids watch the news as they hear about the Taliban taking over their country. Having been refugees for many years and passing through ongoing hardship, they know the fate that is awaiting their friends and families back home. So, they decide to take a stand and do whatever they can to make the world listen to their plea “Help save our country”. We spend a week with the children as they prepare poems, songs, and signs to participate in a demonstration by the Afghan community, all the while getting to know their stories; why they fled, what they faced to get to safety, and all the injustice that children shouldn’t be subjected to. Months after the demonstration, most of the kids in the school are still struggling with Greek bureaucracy and social injustice. So most of them flee to Germany, Switzerland, and other European countries seeking asylum and a place to build a home. The Taliban is now the de facto government in Afghanistan and rarely does the cry for help of the Afghan people reach mainstream media anymore.
