SYNOPSIS

At the beginning of the 20th century, the rhinoceros population was estimated at 500,000 specimens. Today they are only 23,000 to 27,000. The black rhinoceros is critically endangered. If the current rate of poaching persists, it could be extinct in twenty to thirty years.
