Leroy is thirteen, mixed race and grappling with his mother's alcoholism. He ventures about his working-class town with a broken 35mm camera, wishing he could capture the beauty that no one else sees. Motivated by an older black photographer who challenges him to capture his own truth, Leroy decides he'd like to photograph his mother, the one thing he loves so much it hurts.
