On 17th February 1600, the philosopher Giordano Bruno was burnt alive on Rome's market square for teaching that all bodies in nature obey Nature's laws, that the earth rotates around the sun, with neither being at the centre of the universe, and that the universe is filled with myriads of stars and planets like our own.
