SYNOPSIS

Bertrand, a painter, sculptor and creator of an automated puppet show, asked Painlevé to make "Blue Beard" with figures made of stuff that could be modelled frame by frame. It took three years of work and the help of all the Bertrand family, whose daughters adorned and animated the tiny characters in the overall scenes. Jean Painlevé produced the film and his technical skills were used when shooting with the Gasparcolor technique.
