Maryam L'ange

BIOGRAPHIE

Maryam L’Ange is a Tehran-born, New York-based filmmaker with a multidisciplinary international background raised in Belgium, France, England, DC, and California. A former legal and women’s studies scholar, she started out as a drum and bass DJ/music producer and was trained in classical theater. After being invited to participate in the Theater Arts Against Political Violence Program, a model of social theater for post-trauma intervention through performance founded at NYU, she was inspired to draw on her lifelong experiences and direct, including experimental theater and then, narrative-based music videos and short films produced by Somesuch Productions. She subsequently sold and developed six episodes of the first series she created at HBO. Her work has garnered numerous grants and honors, most recently she is a recipient of The Future of Film is Female 2020 Pre-Production and 2022 Post-Production Grants and was shortlisted as a Finalist in the 2021 Tribeca Through Her Lens Female Filmmaker Program. Her latest short film Rāz explores intergenerational trauma and the after effects of immigration within the Iranian diaspora. She is prepping her debut feature.
