BIOGRAPHIE

Hao Hsuan Yen – Director, Screenwriter. Hao Hsuan Yen (1993) was born in Taipei, Taiwan. From an early age, he grew up around the illegal gambling scene while maintaining a normal life through his studies and education. This duality gave him a unique perspective over the spectrum of human virtues and vices, which unbeknownst to him at the moment, would later shape his approach in storytelling. His journey to filmmaking has taken some unexpected turns. Originally graduating with a BA in Computer Science at the National Chiao Tung University, he quickly realized his passion was elsewhere and subsequently changed his academic pursuit to an MFA in Directing at Taipei National University of the Arts. Yen gravitates towards stories that explore and challenge the complexity of emotions through our common human experiences. He merges what he learned through his upbringing and academic background to empathize and analyze the raw aspects of humanity in order to translate into film. He hopes his work will resonate with the audience and connect people through similarities beyond differences in culture and background.
