Since graduating from the AKV St. Joost Academy in 2015, Vincent Boy Kars (1990, Netherlands) has made a name for himself as a documentary director who investigates topics such as identity, self-image and sexuality. He often examines these elements in the context of the digital age and the way in which its overconnected aspect has a vital role in different aspects of human life. In his directing, Kars always aims to challenge and play with the format of the documentary film, flirting with the borders between fiction and reality. He is currently working on his new film Future Me, the final part of his coming-of-age trilogy about Dutch millennials, which began with Independent Boy followed by Drama Girl. Independent Boy, in which the underlying theme is society’s definition of success, premiered at IDFA in 2017. Drama Girl premiered at IFFR in 2020 as part of the Tiger Competition.
