BIOGRAPHIE

Helen Ispirian is a German-Armenian "Co-production". She grew up in the south of Germany, graduated from the Vienna University of Music and worked in theatres or on concert stages as freelance actress and singer. In Moscow, where she performed with her band "GASTARBAiTERKA" on the Moscow International Film Festival as well as in Sibiria and Ural, she worked also in a documentary film company and started her first film project "Homeport" - a film about her family's background, which is connected to historic crisis and couldn't be finished yet: www.helenkurkjian.wixsite.com/homeport With this project, Helen was invited to script-development workshops in Damascus/Syria (Dox Box Film Festival 2011), in Turkey (Int.Istanbul Film Festival) and in Yerevan/Armenia (Golden Apricot IFF). Back in Berlin she started in 2016 her studies in music education at the University of Arts in Berlin. Due to corona, when her freelance jobs were canceled she started to sing in churches with the trio OrgaVoce (soprano/mezzosoprano/organ). This work, which started in the end of the first lockdown in May 2020 inspired her to write a new text and choir arrangement to pieces from Heinrich Schütz and G.F.Händel. Based on the libretto, she started to write a script and found a lot of freelance artists, who supported her to realise her first short fiction film "HEAR US, SWEET FREEDOM!", which has been supported by the Berlin University of the Arts. The aim of the project is to draw attention in a humorous, sensual way to the precarious situation of freelance artists. With this project, the more than 60 participants from the fields of music, dance, theatre and film want to catapult themselves from a victim role to a creative, active position. At the times of development of the film, in summer 2020, nobody would have thought that the pandemic would last so long.
