Wang Pengwei is a writer & director born in Changsha. He learned to walk and speak Chinese in Shenzhen, witnessed the handover of Hong Kong and the subsequent 2 hour display of fireworks on a lawn with several hundred other "Shenzheners" like an enormous communal picnic; he's been trying to recreate the sense of wonder he experienced that night ever since. In 1999, his family moved to Toronto, where he learned to ride a bike and speak English. He would return to Shenzhen for middle school, finish high-school in Ontario, then advanced to UCLA where he majored in Psychology and minored in Film Theory. He recently completed his MFA in Film Production-Directing Emphasis at Chapman University. He has been shooting/editing character studies of people that stand out to him all his life because it was and still is the most expressive outlet for the absurdity he felt growing up between drastically conflicting cultures, environments, and ideologies.
