The female directing duo Milder Sisters is formed by Lotte and Karlijn Milder. Lotte graduated from the Maastricht Academy of Dramatic Arts in 2016 and worked as an actress for various directors in theater and film, most recently starring in the international feature film "Electric Child", which premiered at Locarno Film Festival 2024. Karlijn graduated cum laude in 2011 from the University of the Arts Utrecht in cinematography and worked as a Director of Photography on films, documentaries, and commercials, with screenings on platforms such as VPRO, the Netherlands Film Festival, and EYE Film Museum. Over the years, the sisters developed a strong vision for stories they wanted to bring to the world themselves. With different backgrounds but the same vision, they decided to join forces and work together as a directing duo. They attended script labs and workshops by screenwriter Jolein Laarman ("Kauwboy", "Do Not Hesitate"), directors Joost van Ginkel ("The Paradise Suite", "Prince Bernard"), and Sam Mendes ("Skyfall", "1917", "American Beauty"), and directed commissioned work for Philips, Libresse, the Goodroll, and the Rijksmuseum. Their great passion lies in directing fiction films, such as their short films "Fabiola", "Someone, Nobody, 100,000" and "Fanny". In 2024, they are developing their debut feature film “Maskerade”, building on the story of their latest short film “Fanny”. Their work is characterized by a combination of visual expressiveness, a fascination with underexposed stories, and female icons.
