대학에서 연극을 전공했다. 영화와 연극에서 오랜 기간 배우로 활동했으며, 2009년 부산영평상 신인여우상을 수상하기도 했다. 2012년부터 단편영화 연출을 시작했으며, 배우이자 엄마인 스스로를 투영한 2018년작 <자유연기>로 많은 주목을 받았다. 논쟁적인 베스트셀러를 원작으로 한 첫 장편영화 <82년생 김지영>은 정유미와 공유를 주연으로 한국사회의 여성문제를 다루었으며, 360만 관객을 모으며 그 해 흥행 6위에 올랐다. She began directing short films in 2012, and THE MONOLOGUE (2018), a self-reflecting story about herself as a performer and a mother, received a lot of attention. Based on the controversial novel, KIM JI YOUNG: BORN 1982 featuring JEONG Yu-mi and GONG Yu dealt with the social problems women face in Korea and made the top 6 in the Korean box office that year with 3.6 million audiences.
